College JumpStart Scholarship $1,500 Most high school seniors are looking for a jump start on educational expenses. Current high school students in grades 10 through 12 are eligible to apply for the College JumpStart Scholarship of up to $1,500. The deadline to apply is October 17 and April 15 of each year.Financial need is not a consideration for this annual, merit-based scholarship. Gamers In Real Life (G.I.R.L.) Game Design $5,000 To apply, you must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program related to video games (including programs related to video game art, design, animation, production, programming, or visual effects). Great Lakes National Scholarship $2,500 The Great Lakes National Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates or graduate level students who are United States citizens or permanent residents. They must plan to enroll in a full-time STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) field of study at an accredited non-profit public or private two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire 2015-2016 academic year. Fountainhead Essay Contest $10,000 The Fountainhead Essay Contest is open worldwide to 11th and 12th graders. You must write an essay of no fewer than 800 and no more than 1,600 words on a topic relating to Ayn Rand’s novel, “The Fountainhead.” Topics can be found on the sponsor’s Web site. Essays are judged on both style and content. Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest $100-$5000 The Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest is open to high school students in the United States and Mexico who are 19 years of age or younger. You must submit an essay of no more than 1,200 words on one of the topics outlined in the rules. Annual Signet Classic Scholarship Essay Contest $1,000 The Annual Signet Classic Scholarship Essay Contest is open to high school juniors and seniors. This year’s essay competition is based on the book “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. You must write an essay on one of four selected topics listed on the web site to be considered for this award. Paul Zindel First Novel Award $1,500 The Paul Zindel First Novel Award is available to individuals 18 years or older who are legal residents of the 50 states and Washington D.C. You must submit an original work of fiction that is between 100 and 240 typewritten pages and is appropriate for an audience of children ages 8 to 12. You must not have any published works in existence to be eligible for this award. City Year – Volunteer for America $4,725 City Year & AmeriCorps offer a national program in cities across the United States for young people to promote leadership and development of children through teaching, running after school programs and many other out-of-school initiatives. You must be between the ages of 17 and 24, a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status, and be a high school graduate or GED recipient. In return for serving 10 months of community service and professional development, City Year members earn a weekly stipend, health insurance and an education award in the amount of $4725. SPAACSE George R. Faenza Scholarship $1,000 The SPAACSE George R. Faenza Scholarship is open to graduating American high school seniors. In order to apply, you will need to submit an essay that best describes “Why the United States Needs a Space Program”, three letters of recommendation and a synopsis outlining how you have contributed to space education at the school, community, state or national level. THE EDMUND F. MAXWELL FOUNDATION $5,000 It is anticipated that scholarships for that academic year (other than renewals of previously awarded scholarships) will be limited to entering freshmen, with combined math and verbal SAT scores of over 1200 (or equivalent ACT scores).
