Alma S. Adams Scholarship 5,000 Applicant must provide evidence of community service activities in an underserved community setting. Service activities may include activism, outreach, or peer counseling in tobacco prevention or control. The community service activity should be described in the personal statement.
Applicants must submit documentation of financial need for scholarship funds (SAR report).
Student pursuing a course of study in public health, communications, social work, education, liberal arts or a related field will be considered eligible.
Applicants must have a Grade Point Average of at least a 3.0 (B average) for the most recent academic year.
Student must be a United States citizen or a permanent legal resident to apply.
Applications will be accepted until April 30, 2015. Awardees will be notified by June 30, 2015.

Southern California Association of Governments Scholarship 4,000 Residency: Must be a resident within the SCAG region (i.e., Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura County, or on Tribal Lands within the SCAG region), and be eligible to work in the United States. Students will be asked to submit proof of eligibility to work in the United States if selected as a semi-finalist.
School Enrollment: Must be a high school junior or graduating senior, or currently enrolled in a two-year community college in the SCAG region. Graduating seniors must enroll in higher education (two- or four-year college or university) immediately following graduation from high school (i.e., no gap year).
GPA Minimum: Candidates must have a 3.00 grade point average or higher (based on a 4.00, unweighted scale).
Internship Requirement: Selected applicants must be available for a two-week (80 hours) internship with a local planning agency (city or county), council of governments, or SCAG during Summer 2015. Internship assignments will be located as close as possible to the recipients’ place of residence. All recipients are expected to be available during normal office hours for the duration of the two-week internship assignment.
Visit to SCAG: Scholarship recipients will be required to attend a Regional Council meeting at the SCAG offices in downtown Los Angeles.

• Volunteer or participate in community service or extracurricular activities.

• Plan on attending an accredited college during all four years over which the scholarship is distributed. (The scholarship is paid out in equal installments of $2,500.)

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes 5,000 Nominees must submit a completed online application (Nomination Packet), available via the Barron Prize website. Nominees can initiate the nomination process, as well as submit their completed packet.Nomination Packets must include a Letter from the Nominator. A nominator is simply an adult advocate who has solid knowledge of the young person’s heroic activities. Examples of nominators include teachers, librarians, school counselors, youth service officials, and religious leaders.

Members of the nominee’s family cannot act as nominators nor write letters of reference.

Online nomination applications must be completed and submitted by close of the system April 15. The Barron Prize does not accept nominations via fax, email, or any other carrier.

Please ensure all pieces of the Nomination Packet are completed before submission.

Online nomination applications must be completed in full by 12:00 midnight, MST, on April 15.

The system will automatically close and lock out applicants after the deadline. When the Prize deadline falls on a weekend, the nomination deadline will be 12:00 midnight the next business day.

Contents of the Nomination Packets are considered public information once provided to the Barron Prize and should not include private or privileged information.

All materials must be included in the Nomination Packet at the time of submission to be considered for the award.

If all materials are not present, the packet will be automatically disqualified.
